Even 'spending sifu' Rosmah would be shocked: Jho Low blows RM5mil to woo Taiwan pop-star

Even 'spending sifu' Rosmah would be shocked: Jho Low blows RM5mil to woo Taiwan pop-star

It looks like Jho Low, the favourite 'nephew' of Rosmah Mansor, the wife of the Malaysian Prime Minister, has so much money he doesn't know what to do with it but to blow it on new girlfriend - Taiwanese pop star Elva Hsiao.
Jho, the billionaire businessman from Penang who studied together with Rosmah's son and claims to have made his first million before graduating, became infamous for living the high life with Hollywood celebrities including Paris Hilton.
He is also notorious for hob-nobbing with Arab oil barons and getting them to invest in Prime Minister Najib Razak's 1MDB investment fund, which critics claim was specially established to be the PM's own secret slush fund to hold on to political power.
Few Malaysians have not heard of Jho Low or his outrageous antics on board a yacht with Paris Hilton. But his latest spending binge is bound to shock even Rosmah, who herself is no mean slouch when it comes to shopping sprees.
Stories of Rosmah's collection of Birkin handbags and a RM24mil diamond ring have both astounded and enraged the ordinary folk as they struggled to make ends meet amid soaring food and transportation prices.
"Rosmah's my friend not my godmother," Jho has previously told the press in response to speculation that he had benefited financially from his friendship with the mercurial but extremely influential Rosmah.
Helicopters, violins & MILLION-RINGGIT FIREWORKS!
According to the Daily Chilli, Jho is now making news again for his outrageous date with Elva.
True to his flamboyant style and big partying ways, Jho threw Elva a RM5 million (S$2 million) surprise dinner date at the exclusive Atlantis The Palm hotel and resort in Dubai, all to declare his love and affection for her.
Someone with access to the date posted a five-minute-plus clip on YouTube (scroll below) of the extravaganza night, in which Jho woos Elva with a romantic dinner, roses, orchids, jewellery, live music and fireworks at the hotel's private beach.
He also had a big heart shaped into the sand by a hundred candles. Out on the sea itself, a giant neon light backdrop hung between two yachts with the message "Jho [hearts] Elva".
Halfway through dinner, two men parachuted down from the sky to present Elva with a Chopard pendant-and-necklace set estimated at RM83,500.
This was followed by a million-ringgit fireworks show and a violin performance. Throughout the night, they were apparently doing a lot of hugging.
But she said 'NO'
Although she was touched to tears, Elva allegedly rejected his 'proposal'.
Elva's manager has clarified that the incident happened last year.
According to Apple Daily, Hsiao 33, rejected the proposal as she only saw Low, 31, as a “little brother”.
The songstress is currently reported to be dating Taiwanese actor Kai Ko, who is 12 years her junior.
The pair is said to be holidaying together in Bali.

NAJIB & HIS BROTHERS' EXTENSIVE BUSINESS NETWORK

Saturday December 6, 2008

The band of brothers
By C.S. TAN

THE five sons of the late Tun Abdul Razak have long been in the public limelight – they were growing up when their father was prime minster from 1970 to 1976.

The eldest, Datuk Seri Najib Razak was 17 years old when his father became prime minister while the youngest, Datuk Nazir Razak was then just four.

It was, however, a relatively short prime ministerial tenure as Razak passed away after about five years in office.

The family will again be thrust into the spotlight cast from the prime minister’s office which Najib will assume in March.

His brothers have long been engaged in their own respective professions.

Datuk Johari Razak (left), the second eldest, read law, like his father. He is a senior partner at Shearn Delamore & Co, a large law firm in Kuala Lumpur.

Johari is also a non-executive director in several publicly listed companies including, being chairman of Ancom Bhd, deputy chairman of related Nylex (M) Bhd, and directorships in Hong Leong Industries Bhd and Daiman Development Bhd. He is also a director of Deutsche Bank (M) Bhd.

The middle brother, Datuk Mohamed Nizam Razak studied politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford University in the UK and was a stockbroker, being CEO of PB Securities Sdn Bhd in the 1990s.

At present, he is also a non-executive director in several publicly listed companies including Hiap Teck Venture Bhd, Mamee Double-Decker (M) Bhd, Delloyd Ventures Bhd and Yeo Hiap Seng (M) Bhd. Like Johari, Nizam is also a director of Deutsche Bank.

The fourth brother Datuk Mohamed Nazim Razak (right), who also studied in a British university, is an architect. His wedding in 2005 when he married to Norjuma Habib Mohamed, former host of TV3’s Nona show, was widely covered in the media.

The youngest brother is the most well-known.

Datuk Nazir Razak (left) had studied at Cambridge University where he obtained a master of philosophy.

A career banker, he joined CIMB Investment Bank almost 20 years ago, rising through its executive ranks to become its CEO in 1999.

Following the merger of CIMB and Bumiputra-Commerce Bank to become Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings Bhd (BCHB), Nazir became CEO of the merged group. This was not an easy charge as Bumiputra-Commerce Bank, during its years as Bank Bumiputra, had a history of falling into financial difficulties and needed to be rescued by the government.

Under his watch, the BCHB group, which is branded as CIMB group, was transformed into a GLC (government-linked company) bank that could compete with its peers in the private sector regionally.
Tun Abdul Razak’s family portrait. From left: 13-year-old Najib, Toh Puan Rahah holding 3-month-old Nazir, Nazim, 5, Nizam, 8, and Tun Razak. Johari, who was 12 at the time, is not pictured.

Najib (right) has been careful that there is no incidence of “family cronyism”, although that has not deterred his political opponents from raising the issue.

His record, however, is a good one. Among his brothers, only Nazir has risen to the top post of a large GLC but he had to climb the corporate ladder.

More importantly, Nazir has proved to be a capable banker, an accolade offered by his peers and fund managers for the results he produced at CIMB group. Furthermore, he advanced at CIMB at a time when Najib held other cabinet posts, not that of finance minister.

In recent years, Najib had held the portfolio of defence minister and throughout his term of service, there were no scandals of defence contracts involving his brothers. The family is proud of the Razak name and do not want to tarnish that.

When Najib was defence minister, any involvement by his brothers in the defence industry would have been politically sensitive or even suspicious.

The dilemma of his brothers now is that when Najib becomes prime minister, any career progression they may have in whatever field could be the subject of criticism of Najib’s influence.

Yet, the brothers have built their respective careers and have the right, as any other individual, to move up in their careers.

That raises the possibility of a move to public service by some of the brothers. They are well-educated and are known to be well-mannered, rather than arrogant, and have not been known to abuse their family ties.

Nazir Razak bastardising the New Economic Model

“I have strong opinions about how the NEP has been bastardised over the years”.

That was what NAZIR RAZAK said in August 2010 about the National Economic Policy.

Kenyang perut, suka hati..
He further said “it has come a long way from the social engineering experiment originally aimed at eradicating poverty, Nazir (left) said that the NEP has appeared to enrich small pockets of people.”
But here are just some of the list of projects that have been bastardised by Nazir Razak and his partners in crime in Khazanah Nasional and Air Asia:
1) The MAS – Air Asia share swap in August 2011 where CIMB was the adviser of the deal. Allegedly, millions of tax payers’ money were used when the deal was brokered by him but subsequently the share swap was terminated after barely 8 months after the deal was struck. Clearly, the whole collaboration was poorly advised by CIMB and yet they got to pocket and keep the ‘brokerage fee’  even after the said deal was proven to be one of the biggest blunder by him and Khazanah Nasional.
In order to save his reputation as a leading broker of deals in this hemisphere, he made a meek riposte on how the deal was not in vain after all. But the truth is, small pockets of people got to have a really fat pocket over a dodgy affair without any comprehensive thought process being deliberated. The aftermath of the share swap is for all to read. Of course, the continuing saga of MAS and Air Asia will beset interested Malaysians for a bit longer than anticipated. With the continued collaboration between Air Asia and MAS sans the share swap is still ongoing, one couldn’t help to wonder if we won’t see the last of Nazir Razak’s greedy palms in this joint venture.
2) The IPO listing of Integrated Healthcare Holding (IHH) of which CIMB is also the adviser for the deal. In this instances, Nazir Razak via CIMB advised Khazanah Nasional that any individual bumiputra who wants to take up the shares must have a net asset of RM3 million and cash of RM250,000. For a bumiputra company to take up the shares, it must have RM10 million worth of net assets.
What irked the blogosphere was the fact that such ridiculous conditions will only make the rich bumiputra richer while the less rich but enough cash to buy some shares will not be given that opportunity. Hence, small pockets of people will going to have a really fat pocket.
Syed Akbar Ali made a good point when he wrote :
The purpose of having a special bumiputra share allocation is to make sure bumiputeras (individuals as well as companies) who are on the lower rungs of the economic ladder will also have a chance to parrtake of the nations wealth.  Isn’t it a tad too ridiculous when  you set conditions like these (RM250,000 cash or RM3.0 million assets for bumi individuals, RM10.0 million assets for bumi companies)?
Even Chinese and Indians may not be able to meet these types of money requirements. If bumis can meet these tough requirements, why have the ‘special bumiputera allocation’ at all?
In the mean time, due to his ‘brilliant’ business advice and manoeuvres in the past, he will still be paid by Khazanah (read: our money) for this 2nd rate advice.
3) Sime Darby – E&O deal in 2011 was also brokered by Nazir Razak and CIMB. The deal which was executed in the most highly inappropriate manner with irregular increase of share prices and conflicts of interests abound. The fiasco was investigated by Securities Commission but no concrete results and action were made and taken respectively. Needless to say, the broker will always get away with the least amount of risk but with the maximum returns he could garnered.
Basically it is better for Nazir Razak to look into the mirror and revisit the statement he made back in 2010 before lambasting a policy which benefitted mostly him.
To us, Nazir Razak is the leading L’enfant terrible in bastardising the NEP. With the advent of New Economic Model (NEM), he is surely positioning himself as the Father of Bastardising the NEM too.
Here is a parody of MAS – Air Asia deal which Nazir Razak took part in.

Sinking deeper and deeper into a vast pit of shit...

In today's press briefing, SUARAM confirmed that apart from individuals involved such as Najib and his close friend Razak Baginda, the Malaysian ruling party (UMNO) is the biggest beneficiary.

The evidence SUARAM lawyers have gathered include a sub-folder entitled "C4" which swivels the spotlight for the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder back onto Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

Najib "Ferdinand" Razak & Rosmah "Imelda" Mansor
The Malaysian first couple have been accused of being involved in her murder and two of their bodyguards have been sentenced to hang for killing the 28-year-old Mongolian lady and exploding her body with C4 to prevent identification. Altantuya, who Baginda admits was his mistress, is believed to have had knowledge of the Scorpene transaction.

Apart from Najib and Baginda, former finance minister Daim Zainuddin was also implicated when SUARAM revealed that documents seized by the French police included a note that named Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Noor as one of the players. According to SUARAM, Mohd Ibrahim is close to Daim.

Sons of Prime Minister Najib & Ex-Minister of Law Dato Seri Nazri Caught Womanizing and Drinking

Umno is always trying to ambush and put up red herrings to divert people’s attention. Why, for example, is the hudud issue between PAS and the DAP being made into a big thing? This is a sideshow being elevated to a premier status complete with intellectual gloss from Uncle Tom-ing academics.
PAS and the DAP — they operate on different principles. PAS champions Islamic principles and an Islamic agenda. The DAP champions secular democratic principles as in justice and equality and good governance and all that. Both co-operate on common grounds.
Why is Umno driving a wedge between the two? Umno should be looking out for the MCA which has ridiculed Umno’s stance on an Islamic agenda.
Not very bright at all
Sometimes I think Umno religious luminaries are not that bright. Umno is in power now. The MCA, which is a party of infidels, works closely with Umno, so Umno labels them friendly infidels (kafir zimmi — infidels who accept the authority of Muslims in power). What does that prove? It proves the classification of infidels is a function of who is in power. That is how Umno plays the game.
Suppose now a new government comes into power. The leaders of the government are also Muslims. The DAP, which will emerge as the dominant Chinese supported party, works closely with PR. The DAP represents the new infidels who accept the authority and leadership of the new PR government. It makes them friendly infidels. The DAP now becomes kafir zimmi.
So ustaz-ustaz, the branding of infidels is therefore a function of which side is in power at that particular time. And by that time, if we were to apply the Umno stance, the MCA will become kafir harbi, which makes the slaughter of MCA people permissible?
No agenda for hudud
Umno itself has no agenda about hudud laws. PAS isn’t making hudud as the overriding political agenda. Why should Muslims bother about how the DAP thinks about how the Malays want to practise Islam. Since when is Islam dependent on the thinking of non-Muslims? Muslims should be clear about this; the fate of Islam depends on them. Not on non-Muslims. So why should we place the responsibility of talking about hudud on the DAP?
Its leadership is basically non-Muslim. It never made itself as a party championing religious issues. So when Tunku Abdul Aziz expressed disappointment about hudud and other Islamic issues not being discussed in DAP meetings, I can’t believe that he’s so naïve. Why should non-Muslims talk about Islamic issues? If he was the DAP vice-president then, why wasn’t he vocal about it? And if we want to be mean about it, we can talk all night long about Tunku Aziz’s Islamic credentials over some bottles of Johnny Walker.
The people who should do the talking are Umno and PAS. Umno isn’t talking about it. So where is Umno in all this?
Let’s talk more about Najib’s economic agenda.
The early indicators show that Najib is all talk when it comes to economic strategies, his government’s inability to curb spending. He hasn’t done any transformation actually. It’s all big talk. His transformation means increased government spending, direct government involvement in the economy including owning the means of production or doing business through proxy companies. We are led to ask: does Najib understand what he is doing?
I know he has only one economic strategy. Pay his way though. Spend to buy votes. It’s all motion with no substance of creating the fundamentals of economic growth. This includes nurturing organic growth and reducing government interference. Teaching Malays, for example, to take personal responsibility for their own affairs and look out for unnecessary government wasteful spending.
If he wants to transform the economy he should abandon his from-cradle-to-grave economic strategy. He’s giving out money to people which, of course, is an immediate stress reliever. But in the long run, it snuffs out the drive in people, reducing them to expectant beneficiaries of free lunches. Umno is creating the slave owner-slave economic relationship.
Does anyone still remember the NEM?
What does he mean, for example, by New Economic Model? Once upon a time, I asked him about his NEM. He said it was market-driven economic affirmative action. I thought it was unplanned capitalism or spontaneous voluntary co-operation between economic actors. It wasn’t any of that; it is the same old strategy of selecting close friends as principal business agents. It’s the same Mahathirnomics of choosing and selecting winners who proved in the end they are all his surrogates and front men.
Spending has taken up a big proportion of our national income. By spending, we mean public spending i.e. by the government. The government spends by creating debt instruments, borrowing from banks and issuing government bonds. Public spending has reached almost 50 per cent of our national income and yet government leaders dismiss the ominous warnings. That shows they are poor economic managers.
For all his talk especially about the New Economic Model, Najib hasn’t moved away from the cradle-to-grave economic strategies. He is doing what Roosevelt did with his New Deal.
Here Najib is always doing a new deal. The deal is in the money! Spend baby spend is his mantra.
