To Guan Eng from Umno with love: 'Shit' cakes and a death wish

To Guan Eng from Umno with love: 'Shit' cakes and a death wish

When it comes to 'class' and 'finesse', you have to hand it to Prime Minister Najib Razak's Umno party.
Not only do they come out with most fantastic curses like bapok (sissy), pondan (transvestite) and takda telur (no balls) - all clearly and loudly enunciated at their own annual congress, they have taken to ordering or perhaps even baking their own cakes shaped like 'shit' as birthday gifts for their political rivals.
"They are only disgracing themselves," Sim Tze Tzin, the PKR state assemblyman for Pantai Jerejak, told Malaysia Chronicle.

Green light from the top

To an extent, Najib as Umno president must take the blame. He was there at the assembly, and could have done much with just a word or two to chastise and rein in such hooliganism . Instead he chose to match the racist remarks of the Umno delegates with his own.

Thus, armed with the green light from the top, Penang Umno again outdid itself with a show of unrestrained ill-will against Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on his 51st birthday.

Mohamed Ghani Abd Jiman, chairman of Umno NGO Pertubuhan Suara Anak-Anak Malaysia, led a small group of supporters into the Komtar tower, where Guan Eng's office is sited.

They tried to hand over an elaborate confection - 4 brownish cakes shaped like excrement placed around another bigger cake shaped in the number 4.

The number '4', which rhymes with the word 'death', is considered bad-luck for the Chinese community, and is especially taboo on birthdays and other auspicious days like weddings or engagements. It will be taken as a 'death wish' or even a curse.

Desperate for publicity
However, they didn't make it to Guan Eng's room. The UMNO group was stopped by security at the lobby.

Zairil Khir Johari, Guan Eng's politicial secretary, later issued a statement that "Lim's birthday is a personal matter" and those who wished to present gifts should do so by donating to any charitable cause.

Of course, it did not stop Ghani from having his two cents worth of media attention. Ghani had in the past even challenged Guan Eng to a physical fight and bought underwear as gifts to be presented to the Chief Minister in a crude bid to embarrass him.

Quick as a flash on Thursday, he seized the opportunity to cut the 'cakes' to reveal that the "chocolate cream-coated" confection in the shape of the number 4', and another resembling human excreta, were not made of flour or other edible material.

"(This is to show the Pakatan Rakyat government) looks nice on the outside but is fake on the inside," Ghani told reporters.

Long way to go
But to many Penangites, with whom Guan Eng is very popular regardless of race, the latest caper only proved that Umno and BN had a long way to go before they could be trusted again to represent the people.

"Would you vote for these type of people," asked Tze Tzin.
Meanwhile, PAS central committee member Idris Ahmad said by resorting to such antics, Ghani and his supporters were a disgrace to Muslims.

"Which teaching approves such a behaviour? Is this the Islam wasatiyyah (moderate Islam) concept?" asked Idris, referring to UMNO's recent claim that it espoused moderation in its struggle.

Respect the religious practices of Christians on carolling, Teresa tells police

    Written by  Teresa Kok

The Malaysian Royal Police must not use politically motivated manoeuvres to hinder long-held customs, such as the tradition of Carolling among Christians, which has been an exercise of goodwill and peace for decades in our country during the joyous season of Christmas.

While the requirement of providing detailed info of carolling activities and participants, and obtaining a police permit is tedious in itself, Christian churches and groups have adhered to this rule since the late 80’s and have gone about spreading joy and peace to members’ homes without disturbing public order.
Neither have they infringed on religious freedoms of others in Malaysia.

In Friday sermon, Jakim warns Muslims against selling out to ‘others’

In Friday sermon, Jakim warns Muslims against selling out to ‘others’

    December 09, 2011

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 — The government’s official sermon delivered today suggested that the position of Islam and the royal institution was being questioned because Muslims were selling out the religion to “certain quarters” which it did not name.

The sermon appeared to suggest that Muslims who associate with non-Muslims or stand up for non-Muslim causes were betraying their faith, and echoed some of the racially divisive views espoused at the recent Umno general assembly.

It was delivered at all mosques today and was prepared by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim).

A copy of today’s sermon — sighted by The Malaysian Insider — appeared to hit out at Muslims who “conspire with certain groups in questioning Islam as the official religion in this country on the excuse of defending the fundamental rights of others” for personal gain.

It described those Muslims as “deviating from the teachings” of Prophet Muhammad, as well as “committing a big sin, oppressing Muslims and threatening national harmony” in the sermon that was to mark the end of Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin’s five year reign as Yang Di-Pertuan Agong.

“Remember, if Muslims lose their integrity, their pride and are manipulated by others, in the end, Islam in this country will suffer the same fate that has befallen other nations where their people were insulted and driven from the country of their birth,” it said.

The sermon did not directly refer to any one person in particular but appears to echo the political rhetoric heard at the Umno general assembly last week.
According to the Jakim sermon, purported attempts to convert Muslims also fall foul of Islam’s exclusive rights under the country’s Constitution.

It urged all Muslims to unite and uphold the constitutional monarchy system, reminding them that without a ruler, the administration of religion would be chaotic and would cause animosity.
“Avoid involvement in any action that could potentially threaten or pollute the royal institution and disputes what is contained in the Constitution, including that which pertains to Islam as the country’s religion,” it added
